Welcome to the KDD Linux Tutorial. Most people
using this site are KDD members. If you are a KDD
member you should be able to use this tutorial to
learn how to use Linux at the KDD and how our Linux
systems are setup here at the KDD. Even though
this tutorial is taylored mainly for the KDD group
here at K-State university, it can also be used by
non KDD members. I have tried my hardest to make it
completely objective giving the facts and several
examples so that everyone may benefit.
I won't explain all of the details about the KDD here
but one detail is we use Linux and Linux like machines
sometimes called *nixes.
If you want to know more about the kdd you can go to
out home page at
The KDD.
To use this tutorial you do not need any prior information
about linux what so ever. It is designed to guide you through
the process of installing a recent linux distrobution to
using Linux on a daily basis. It has
sections for advanced use which
are mainly for future KDD administrators.
Well it's about time for you to get started. My best
advise for you is to not try to eat this tutorial in
one bite. It takes time to learn linux and at times
it will probably be confusing and frustrating. If this
tutorial doesn't lead you to the promised land then
take a look at some of the others. Getting a second
perspective on a subject usually adds understanding
and clarity. So pay attention to posted links about
different topics and use them if needed.
